A semiconductor is a material that lies between a conductor (e.g., metal) and an insulator (e.g., plastic or ceramic) in terms of electrical conductivity. Its electrical conductivity is between that of a conductor and an insulator, which is why it is called a "semiconductor." Common semiconductor materials include silicon, germanium, gallium arsenide, indium phosphide, cadmium telluride, silicon nitride, and others. With the continuous advancement of technology, new semiconductor materials are also emerging.
