Material Reliability Identification (PMI)

Material Reliability Identification (PMI)
Material Identification (PMI) is a fundamental nondestructive testing (NDT) method used to verify that supplied materials conform to the appropriate standards and specifications. PMI is especially used to confirm that the percentages of key elements in the chemical composition of metal parts are correct, ensuring that the material meets requirements for corrosion resistance and other properties. XRF is the most common PMI method, and the portability of handheld devices allows PMI to be performed on-site at a production facility or factory. Portable XRF devices scan materials and provide chemical composition and alloy grade identifications.
