Grain Size and Microscopic Stress of Metallic Materials

XRD is widely used in materials science and engineering, providing researchers with a very powerful tool. The grain size of a metal directly affects its mechanical properties and microstructure. XRD can indirectly estimate the grain size by measuring the broadening of diffraction peaks and calculate the grain size information of the material using the Scherrer equation.
On the other hand, metal materials are subjected to microscopic stress during the loading process, which affects the crystal lattice spacing. XRD can quantitatively measure the microscopic stress of the material by analyzing these small lattice changes. This is important for evaluating the material's deformation mechanism, plastic deformation characteristics, and stress distribution.
